Week 5: Top three cultural foods

If you’ve read a couple of my previous posts, you know that I’m pretty picky. I’m not adventurous when it comes to food; I like to stick to what I know and like. My top three cultural foods aren’t that interesting, but they’re very unhealthy and delicious.

1. Pizza

I’ve never been to Italy, but Italian food is popular in France. I ate more pizza there than I’d like to admit, considering that was one of the few things I’d actually eat. Luckily, we had a pizza shop right next door to our flat that was open 24/7 so I’d sneak down for a midnight snack every night.

2. Croissants

The croissants from Starbucks that I’ve been eating for years don’t even compare to French croissants. All bread in general is delicious there. (London’s isn’t too bad, either.) I don’t have any photos of them because I inhaled them before I could even think to pull my phone out. Sorry!

3. Chocolate Mousse

Generally, I don’t eat this at home. It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just that there are desserts I enjoy more so I typically choose those. However, this was the only thing on the dessert menu at the restaurant in Paris that appealed to me (that’s so sad to even type because I love dessert). I thought it’d be a normal little dainty bowl of chocolate. I did not expect what came out.

A huge bowl. And our server said that I could eat all of it and he’d bring me another bowl if I wanted. I was in Heaven. All-you-can-eat-chocolate-mousse? Yes please! (I only had one spoonful, don’t worry.)

I plan on branching out more in my travels now, like trying actual cultural foods. I just could not bring myself to eat escargot. I will be more adventurous in my taste-testing next time I visit Paris!

  1. I had pizza when I was in Paris. It was pretty good and I would say surprisingly American size as far as proportions go. I love eating lots of desserts– my favorite thing to eat in foreign countries is ice cream or gelato.

    1. I’ve never had one either, I should’ve tried it there! Outside the U.S., I’ve only been to Jamaica and a few other countries in the Central America/Caribbean area. I just started really traveling a couple years ago, so that’s just where most of my stories come from!
